2 comments on “The “Wormwood” Effect

    • Hello Sharon

I looked into the Bible for the meaning of the word ‘wormwood’ and to understand its usage in the Book of Revelation Chapter 8. My conclusion isn’t something I arbitrarily came to.

In my post, I looked for the biblical application of the term and began with God’s usuage of the word.

      Deuteronomy 29:18

18 “lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turns away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that bears gall and wormwood“.

Here, God uses ‘wormwood’ to define corruption of the heart by turning to serve gods of other nations. God used the term to describe spiritual corruption not a physical corruption as one might experience by drinking alcoholic beverages.

An important thing to remember when studying the prophecies in the Book of Revelation is that it contains allegorical words that can only be understood by looking for their usuage in other biblical passages. Words such as: stars, locust, sword, etc.

Also, the Book of Revelation is a specifically endtime prophecy i.e. the Day of the Lord. This is when the huge stars mentioned fall from Heaven and pollutes the waters. Hard liquor has been abused for centuries by humans and did not begin at the start of the endtimes.

Please consider these points and thank you for sharing your thoughts.
